It is tough to go to a farmer’s market and not spend too much money. Everything always looks so good. Though as I grow more food for myself, the less I buy. I like to snack on grapes even in the winter but the prices are often too high(just recently $3.49 lb!) so I buy bunches of them in season and pack them away in the freezer. Sure they will be soft if you let them defrost all the way, but it’s a great way to enjoy the grape flavors out of season. I often freeze blueberries, strawberries, cherries and golden cherries-if I’m feeling flush at the moment(all frozen in a freezer bag). Nectarines and peaches, too but with 1/2 the sugar the recipes call for. And applesauce made with a lot of cinnamon and 1/2 the sugar called for, as well. I’ve been buying less and less from the grocery store in the past 6 months. Too costly, for sure. One thing that I would like to master is making my own bread. Sometimes I feel like I am throwing my money away on store bought bread. Not good.
I will often just buy products that are on sale in the grocery store, but sometimes the pickings are slim for sure. :) And if you can invest in a small freezer for foods harvested during the growing season, I’d highly recommend it.

Good article, by the way. :)

Great advice, wonderful read! I love that you get in bulk, we save a lot by doing that…and also cooking most all of meals at home. Thank you for the encouragement to grow my own greens and herbs, my husband makes a killer pesto! <3 Blessings!!!
